How to Check and Select Available Posts for Transfer in TMIS

When applying for a school transfer through the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS), your application relies entirely on the availability of approved open positions. As noted in the official manual, user guide, teachers are placed strictly into vacant posts, and no placement can be finalized if an opening does not exist.

The TMIS portal handles this directly within its automated platform. Thanks to integrated system tools, REB and RTB manage budget-approved posts in real time, making it easier than ever to see where help is needed most.

Here is exactly how to navigate the system to check and select your available options.

Step 1: Browse Open Positions Publicly (Optional)

Before even starting your application, you can check open positions on the portal. By navigating to the public footer link labeled Teacher Vacants (accessible directly via https://tmis.reb.rw/teacher-vacants), you can view active post distributions across different districts.

The system displays budget posts approved by MINECOFIN, meaning any vacancy you see listed here is fully backed, funded, and ready for deployment.

Step 2: Navigate to the Transfer Request Section

Before you can view open options, you must initiate a transfer application to access the destination settings.

  1. Log into your account at https://tmis.reb.rw.
  2. From the main menu on the left sidebar, click on Transfers & Permut... and then select Transfers.
  3. Click the blue + New Request button to launch the application window.

Step 3: Complete Your Baseline Profiles

The TMIS system uses smart filtering based on your current professional details to show you matching vacancies.

  1. Review Teacher Details: The system automatically pulls your national ID photo and certified education certificate level (e.g., A2, A1, or A0).
  2. Answer Special Circumstances: Complete the required health and family questionnaire (disability or chronic disease status) and click Next.

Step 4: Filter and Select Open Posts

Once you reach the final Transfer details tab, the portal opens up the vacancy selection features:

  • Profile Matching: The system locks in your teaching level and specialization (for example, Languages teacher (A2)) to ensure you only see schools with matching vacancies.
  • Selecting Your Interest: Use the destination dropdown fields to browse open positions. The system will display available options tailored to your specific teaching profile.
  • Track the Deadline: Keep a close eye on the live countdown clock (displaying days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining) visible right above the action buttons to ensure you submit before the window closes.

Once you have selected your target station from the available options, click SUBMIT to lock in your transfer request.

Quick Tip: Because the TMIS portal dynamically shifts available slots based on real-time submissions and institutional approvals, it is highly
