REB English Proficiency Test for School
Leaders
REB officially announced the English
Proficiency Assessment on 29 August 2026. The assessment is
specifically for candidates who applied for school leadership positions and
successfully passed the written recruitment examination.
The positions covered include:
- Head Teacher
- Deputy Head Teacher
Candidates who meet the requirements are
expected to take the English Proficiency Test before proceeding to the next
stage of the recruitment process.
REB explains that the results of the
assessment will be used to determine which candidates can progress to the interview
stage.
This means that passing the written
examination does not mark the end of the recruitment process. Eligible
candidates must also successfully complete the English proficiency assessment
before they can proceed further.
When Will the English Proficiency Test
Take Place?
The English Proficiency Test is scheduled
to take place between 3 September and 6 September 2026.
REB has now published documents showing the
examination centres, dates and times assigned to candidates.
Candidates are therefore encouraged to
check the official REB documents carefully to find their name, examination
centre and allocated time.
The official announcement states that
candidates will take the test on their allocated dates during this period.
REB Has Published Examination Centres
The Rwanda Basic Education Board has
published several PDF documents containing the allocation of candidates to
English Proficiency Test centres.
The documents currently available on the
REB announcement page include allocations for areas such as:
- City of Kigali
- Rulindo
- Rwamagana
- Kamonyi
- Bugesera
REB has also published a document showing
the English proficiency test districts for school leadership candidates.
For example, the City of Kigali allocation
document contains the names of candidates, the district where they took the
written examination, their English Proficiency Test district, examination date,
centre and time.
This information allows each candidate to
confirm exactly where and when they are expected to take the assessment.
How to Check Your English Proficiency
Test Centre
Candidates should not simply choose an
examination centre based on where they live or where they previously took the
written examination.
REB has clearly instructed candidates to
attend only the examination centre to which they have officially been
assigned.
To check your allocation, follow these
simple steps:
Step 1: Visit the REB website
Go to the official Rwanda Basic Education
Board announcement page:
REB Official Announcement Page
Step 2: Find the English Proficiency
Test announcement
Look for the announcement titled:
“00 CENTERS OF EF TEST FOR SCHOOL
LEADERS CANDIDATES 2026”
The announcement currently provides several
PDF files containing candidate allocations.
Step 3: Open the PDF for your assigned
area
Choose the relevant document and search for
your name.
The documents provide important information
including the candidate's name, examination date, examination centre and test
time.
Step 4: Confirm your test details
After finding your name, carefully check:
- Your examination date
- Your examination centre
- Your examination time
- Your assigned district
Candidates should save or print their
information so they can easily refer to it before travelling to the examination
centre.
