Over 600 Teachers and School Leaders Face Possible Disciplinary Action Over National Exam Cheating
More than 500 teachers and school leaders in Rwanda could face disciplinary action following allegations that education personnel supported or facilitated examination malpractice during the 2025/2026 national examinations.
The case comes as the Ministry of Education investigates widespread suspected cheating involving students who sat for the national examinations marking the completion of Primary and Lower Secondary Education.
Teachers and School Leaders Under Investigation
The reported involvement of more than 600 teachers and school leaders has raised concerns about the role of examination supervisors and school authorities in protecting the integrity of national examinations.
Teachers and school leaders have a key responsibility to ensure that examinations are conducted according to established rules and that all candidates are given a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

Speaking to the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana said the investigation results would be announced no later than Monday, August 31, 2026.
The announcement is expected to clarify the extent of the alleged malpractice and identify the responsibilities of different individuals involved.
