For students wishing to pursue a master’s degree, Marshall
University in the United States is providing fully financed graduate research
assistantships. The award comprises a tuition waiver, complete tuition
reimbursement, and an annual stipend of $18,000.
Marshall University’s (Huntington, WV) Department of
Biological Sciences’ Herpetology and Applied Conservation Lab is offering two
enthusiastic M.S. students the chance to study eastern hellbenders in West
Virginia.
Students will need to actively communicate and collaborate
with project partners as part of the joint research with state, federal, and
non-governmental stakeholders. Students will create and carry out an M.S.
thesis as part of the sponsored research under the guidance of Dr. Jayme
Waldron and senior lab staff.
Eligibility Criteria :
- For
enrollment, a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is highly encouraged.

- Possess
a current state motor vehicle operator’s license and be able to swim.
- It is
necessary to have prior field research experience and a keen interest in
Hellbender ecology.
- Applications
are sought from candidates with knowledge of or interest in demographic
modeling and population ecology.
- must
be willing to endure difficult field circumstances and dedicated to
adhering to stringent safety procedures.
- Show
maturity and a track record of collaborating effectively with technicians
and peers.
- Willingness
to work on your own when needed
