English Proficiency Assessment Starts on
31 October 2026
The Rwanda Basic Education Board has
informed district authorities that the previously postponed English Proficiency
Assessment will now begin on 31 October 2026 for eligible teachers who
have completed the required learning content towards B2 certification.
Enroll In Courses
The assessment will initially cover
eligible teachers in:
- City of Kigali
- Northern Province
- Western Province
The assessment dates for teachers in the
remaining provinces will be communicated later.
Assessment Will Be Computer-Based
REB has indicated that the assessment will
be computer-based.
Teachers concerned are therefore encouraged
to continue practising reading and writing using computers in
preparation for the assessment.
Get Language Courses
Head teachers have also been requested to
facilitate teachers’ access to available school computers to support their
preparation.
Testing Centres and Assessment Dates
REB will publish the testing centres and
assessment dates for the first phase on its official website by 2
October 2026.
More detailed assessment guidelines will
subsequently be communicated to the concerned teachers.

Who Will Take the Assessment?
The assessment is intended for teachers
who have completed the required learning content towards B2 certification.
The first phase will cover eligible
teachers in Kigali, Northern Province and Western Province. Teachers in other
provinces will receive assessment dates later.
What Teachers Should Do Now
Eligible teachers should:
- Continue preparing for the English proficiency assessment.
- Practise reading and writing using a computer.
- Follow communications from their schools and districts.
- Check the REB website for testing centres and assessment dates
from 2 October 2026.
- Follow the detailed assessment guidelines when they are
released.

Assessment for teachers
The Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB)
wishes to inform you that the previously postponed English Proficiency
Assessment will commence on 31st October 2026 for teachers who have
completed the required learning content towards B2 certification.
The assessment will begin with eligible
teachers in the City of Kigali, Northern Province and Western Province. Assessment
dates for teachers in the remaining provinces will be communicated later. The
assessment will be computer based. We kindly request you to inform all
concerned teachers and encourage them to continue learning and practise writing
exercises on computers. Head teachers are requested to facilitate teachers'
access to school computers.
REB will publish the testing centres and
assessment dates for the first phase on www.reb.gov.rw by 2 October 2026.
More detailed assessment guidelines will be communicated to the concerned
teachers subsequently.
