2Coverage of the Amgen Scholars Program

The Amgen program provides the following support throughout the program duration.

2.1International Scholars:

  • Accommodation: Arranged by the National University of Singapore.
  • Travel grant*: up to SGD1500
    I need to pay for my flight to Singapore from my home country. I also need a flight from Kyoto back home after the symposium. I want to take the most direct and affordable route.
  • Stipend**: SGD6000 for the 8-week program
  • Visa application: TEP applications will be initiated by the National University of Singapore and fees will be covered.

2.2Amgen Scholars Program for Local Scholars:

  • Accommodation: Local students are to stay in the accommodation for the duration of the program.
  • Travel grant*: Round trip airfare to and back from the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium will be arranged and covered by the program.
  • Stipend**: SGD6000 for the 8-week program

All students must arrange their own private health and travel insurance. Please be informed that neither the Amgen Foundation nor the National University of Singapore can provide health insurance.

3Eligibility Criteria for this Scholarship:

3.1Amgen Scholars Asia Program applicants must be undergraduate students who are:

  • Enrolled in colleges or universities in Asia* that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent); and
  • At minimum, have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins; and
  • Are not graduating before the summer program begins, and after the summer program ends will resume undergraduate studies for at least one semester or one quarter.

3.2Asia Program applicants must also have for the Amgen Scholars Program:

  • A strong record of academic performance; and
  • A good working knowledge of English. If not a native English speaker, English is not your first language, or your current university is not taught in English, you will need to demonstrate your English proficiency with either of the following:
    • a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72
    • IELTS overall band score of 5.5
    • Cambridge English FCE
    • TOEIC score of 1095,
    • TOEIC L&R score of 785, or
    • TOEIC S&W score of 310
    • If your current university is taught in English, a letter from the university stating that their teaching medium is fully in English will suffice.
  • An interest in pursuing a Ph.D.

Southern Asia: Afghanistan; Bangladesh; Bhutan; India; Iran (Islamic Republic of); Maldives; Nepal; Pakistan; Sri Lanka
