Rwanda Revised 2026–2027 School Timetable: What Pre-Primary Learners Will Follow
Rwanda has released a revised weekly
timetable covering Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and Professional Education.
For Pre-Primary education, the timetable places strong emphasis on learning
through play, language development, numeracy, physical development, creativity
and exploration.
Pre-Primary Daily Schedule
Learning activities run from 7:45 a.m.
to 12:00 noon, followed by lesson preparation and Continuous Professional
Development (CPD) for teachers from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.

Note: - A period in pre-primary
lasts between 20 and 30 minutes depending on subjects and activities

Depending on the theme and activity, whenever it is
necessary and possible, teachers should follow the indoor–outdoor–indoor
principles

Play Scheme and free play in corners is a deliberate
opportunity for children to practice
and apply the knowledge,
skills, and concepts they have learned across different subjects and
activities.

feasible, the pre-primary section shall be provided lunch during break time
Learning Through Play
One of the notable elements of the
timetable is the deliberate inclusion of Play Scheme/Free Play in corners.
According to the timetable, this provides children with an opportunity to
practise and apply knowledge, skills and concepts learned across different
subjects and activities.
Teachers are also expected, whenever
appropriate and possible, to apply the indoor–outdoor–indoor principle,
depending on the theme and learning activity.
Teacher Preparation and CPD
After the learner programme ends at noon,
teachers have time from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. for lesson preparation and
Continuous Professional Development.
This creates a dedicated period for
teachers to prepare learning activities and strengthen their professional
practice.
