professional School Nurse to join our school community and
provide high-quality health services to students.
The successful candidate will be confident in providing
first aid and nursing care, responding to medical emergencies, managing student
health information and medication, and supporting students with ongoing medical
needs.
The School Nurse will work closely with students,
parents/guardians, teachers, school leadership, and external healthcare
providers. The role requires excellent professional judgment, strong
communication skills, confidentiality, and a genuine commitment to student
wellbeing, safety, inclusion, and safeguarding.

Job Summary;
The School Nurse is responsible for providing professional
health services and nursing care to students and supporting the health and
safety of the wider school community.
The School Nurse will provide first aid and emergency care,
assess illnesses and injuries, manage student medications and health records,
support students with chronic or ongoing medical conditions, coordinate health
screenings, promote health and hygiene, and contribute to infection prevention
and emergency preparedness.
The School Nurse will also contribute to the school's
safeguarding and child protection efforts by identifying and appropriately
reporting concerns in accordance with ISK's safeguarding policies and
procedures.
Key Responsibilities;
- Provide
professional first aid and nursing care to students who become ill or
injured during the school day.
- Respond
promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies and provide emergency
assistance to staff and visitors when required.
- Assess
illnesses and injuries and determine appropriate follow-up, including
referral to parents/guardians, healthcare providers, or emergency services
when necessary.
- Support
students returning to school following illness, injury, hospitalization,
or other significant health events.
- Develop
and maintain individualized health plans and emergency action plans for
students with significant medical conditions, including allergies, asthma,
diabetes, seizures, and other health needs.
- Manage
the safe storage, administration, documentation, and disposal of student
medications in accordance with ISK policies and professional requirements.
- Maintain
accurate, current, and confidential student health records, including
health office visits, injuries, medication administration, screenings,
immunizations, and other relevant medical information.
- Ensure
emergency medications are appropriately stored, accessible, monitored, and
within their expiry dates.
- Coordinate
appropriate student health screenings and communicate relevant results and
recommendations to parents/guardians.
- Promote
healthy habits, hygiene, preventive healthcare, and age-appropriate health
awareness across the school community.
- Support
the school's infection prevention and communicable disease management
procedures and advise school leadership of significant health concerns.
- Maintain
and regularly inspect first-aid kits, emergency supplies, medical
equipment, and other health-related resources across the campus.
- Support
emergency preparedness activities, medical emergency procedures, drills,
and first-aid and CPR training for relevant staff.
- Communicate
professionally with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns
and coordinate with healthcare providers where appropriate.
- Collaborate
with teachers, counselors, learning support staff, administrators, and
other relevant personnel regarding student health needs.
- Provide
health and safety guidance for field trips, athletics, school activities,
and other school-sponsored events.
- Contribute
to school policies and initiatives related to health, hygiene, illness
prevention, emergency preparedness, and student wellbeing.
- Contribute
to the school's safeguarding and child protection efforts in accordance
with ISK policies and procedures.
- Maintain
professional nursing registration and certifications and participate in
relevant professional development.
- Perform
other duties related to the position as assigned by the Business Manager
or school leadership.
Qualifications and Experience;
- Bachelor's
degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Current
professional nursing registration/licensure and authorization to practice
in Rwanda, as applicable.
- Minimum
of two years of professional nursing experience, preferably including
experience in pediatrics, adolescent health, community health, public
health, or a school/educational setting.
- Previous
experience as a School Nurse is an advantage.
- Current
CPR certification.
- Demonstrated
knowledge of first aid, emergency response, medication administration,
infection prevention, and basic health assessment.
- Strong
communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated
ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional
judgment.
- Ability
to work effectively in a multicultural and international school environment.
- Commitment
to student wellbeing, safety, inclusion, and safeguarding.

Working Conditions;
This is a full-time, on-site position based at International
School of Kigali located in Kibagabaga.
The School Nurse is expected to work during normal school
operating hours and may occasionally be required to provide health support
during school activities, athletics, field trips, events, or other
school-sponsored activities.
