About the Position
The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is seeking a
qualified and motivated Writing Centre Assistant to support
students in developing strong academic writing and oral communication skills.
The role focuses on assisting multilingual and
English-as-an-additional-language learners enrolled in the MBBS and MGHD
programs.
Working closely with the Coordinator of the Writing Centre,
the successful candidate will contribute to academic support services including
individualized consultations, workshops, faculty collaboration, communication
resource development, and data-driven student support initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Student Writing and Communication Support
- Provide
one-on-one and small-group academic writing consultations.
- Support
students in:
- Academic
writing and paragraph development
- Essay
and research paper organization
- Literature
reviews
- Scientific
and health-profession writing
- Presentation
preparation
- Citation
and referencing
- Grammar,
coherence, and academic style
- Assist
multilingual and ESL/EAL learners in adapting to university-level
communication expectations.
- Deliver
constructive feedback that promotes independent learning and confidence.
Student Support and Referral Coordination
- Support
faculty referral processes for students needing communication assistance.
- Maintain
consultation records and referral documentation.
- Participate
in follow-up support systems for students facing communication-related
academic challenges.
- Help
identify recurring writing and presentation difficulties among students.
Workshops and Academic Communication Programs
- Facilitate
workshops and instructional sessions.
- Develop
writing guides, presentation resources, academic integrity materials, and
workshop handouts.
- Support
peer-review and formative feedback activities.
- Contribute
to online learning resources within Canvas LMS.
Faculty Collaboration
- Work
with faculty to improve communication-focused teaching practices.
- Support
the development of writing and presentation rubrics.
- Assist
with scaffolded writing assignments and communication pedagogy
initiatives.
- Help
identify communication trends that can improve teaching and learning
outcomes.
Digital Learning and Technology Support
- Assist
in managing Writing Centre technologies and digital resources.
- Support
Canvas LMS and Grammarly Education implementation.
- Help
manage scheduling systems, engagement tracking, and digital records.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect
and organize Writing Centre usage data.
- Support
reporting on:
- Student
consultations
- Workshop
participation
- Referral
patterns
- Writing
challenges and support trends
- Contribute
to dashboards, analytics systems, and evidence-based recommendations for
student success initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's
Degree in English, Communication, Education, Linguistics, Writing Studies,
or a related field.
- Excellent
written and spoken English communication skills.
- Experience
in tutoring, academic writing support, or educational assistance.
- Strong
interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability
to work effectively with culturally diverse and multilingual learners.
- Ability
to provide student-centered and constructive feedback.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's
Degree in Education or a related field.
- Experience
working in a university or writing centre environment.
- Experience
supporting ESL/EAL learners.
- Familiarity
with Canvas LMS and academic support technologies.
- Experience
with writing centre management platforms such as WCOnline.
- Knowledge
of Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting and analytics tools.
- Experience
facilitating workshops and peer-learning programs.
- Familiarity
with health sciences or professional communication environments.
