Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the
financial operations of the company, overseeing operational aspects focused on
value creation, optimizing resources, ensuring targets are achieved, and
preparing financial records
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting and Records Management
- Prepare
and maintain accurate financial records for the company.
- Produce
financial reports to support business performance review and
decision-making.
- Ensure
timely recording, posting, and reconciliation of financial
transactions.
- Maintain
proper documentation for all accounting and financial activities.
- Support
internal and external audit processes by preparing required information
and schedules.
2. Payments, Invoicing and Reconciliations
- Review
and process supplier invoices and payments.
- Monitor
bank transactions and perform regular bank reconciliations.
- Prepare
and verify payment schedules.
- Follow
up on supplier payments and resolve payment-related queries.
- Ensure
proper reconciliation of purchases, sales, stock, and customer
payments.
3. Budgeting, Forecasting and Cashflow Management
- Prepare
weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts.
- Support
the preparation and review of company budgets.
- Monitor
expenditure against approved budgets and flag variances.
- Assist
management in financial planning and resource optimization.
- Provide
financial insights to support cost control and operational
efficiency.
4. Compliance and Asset Safeguarding
- Ensure
compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
- Support
tax compliance, including VAT, withholding tax, and statutory
filings.
- Safeguard
company assets through proper controls, reconciliations, and
monitoring.
- Follow
up on audit recommendations and support implementation of corrective
actions.
- Ensure
financial risks are identified, reported, and mitigated.
5. Stock and Inventory Control
- Participate
in stock counts and inventory verification.
- Perform
stock reconciliations and ensure proper posting of inventory
transactions.
- Coordinate
with the stock controller and relevant teams to ensure accurate inventory
records.
- Investigate
and report stock discrepancies.
6. Internal and External Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise
with accounting service providers on salaries, tax filing, VAT, and
withholding tax.
- Coordinate
with external auditors and provide required audit information.
- Work
with banks on account monitoring and related queries.
- Follow
up with customers on outstanding payments.
- Coordinate
with suppliers on invoices, reconciliations, and payments.
- Support
internal teams including operations, sales, purchasing, and management on

Planning and Reporting Requirements
The Senior Accountant will be expected to manage
recurring finance activities, including:
- Daily
approval and processing of supplier invoices, payments, and bank
transfers.
- Monthly
approval and submission of accounts.
- Yearly
budget preparation.
- Yearly
preparation of reports and information for internal and external
audits.
Decision-Making and Authority
The role operates within established procedures and company
policies. The Senior Accountant is expected to make sound decisions
within standard accounting practices, financial controls, and approved
procedures, while escalating complex matters to the Country Manager or relevant
senior management.
Supervisory Responsibility
This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
However, the Senior Accountant will coordinate closely with internal
teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth financial operations.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum Experience
- At
least 5 years of relevant experience in accounting,
finance, or a similar role.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong
knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Good
understanding of tax compliance, including VAT and withholding tax.
- Strong
reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Experience
in budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management.
- Strong
attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability
to work independently and manage priorities with minimal
supervision.
- Good
communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High
level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Proficiency
in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Ability
to work in a fast-paced business environment.
