📋 General Information
This examination is the English Proficiency Test for Teachers — Sample Exam 2: Language Proficiency & Classroom Communication, administered by the Rwanda Education Board (REB) as part of the teacher recruitment and certification framework. This paper specifically evaluates teachers' ability to apply accurate English grammar in context, comprehend academic texts related to pedagogy, produce professional written communication, and demonstrate appropriate oral language use in realistic classroom and school scenarios. These competencies reflect the communication demands placed on teachers daily and are essential for effective instruction. The total marks for this paper are 100, and the minimum pass mark is 70%. The total time allowed is 1 hour (60 minutes). No additional time will be provided under any circumstances once the examination has commenced.
📝 Structure of the Paper
This paper is organised into four parts reflecting the key language competencies required of professional teachers. Part A — Grammar: Sentence Structure & Mechanics (25 marks) contains eight (8) questions: Questions 1–5 require you to identify the best correction for grammatically incorrect sentences (3 marks each), while Questions 6–8 test your ability to combine sentences using specified connectors (3–4 marks each). Part B — Reading Comprehension (25 marks) contains seven (7) questions based on a passage titled "The Power of Formative Assessment." Questions 9–13 are multiple-choice (3 marks each), and Questions 14–15 assess your conceptual understanding of key ideas from the text (5 marks each). Part C — Professional Writing (20 marks) contains one (1) question requiring you to select the best-formatted professional memorandum for a given school context (20 marks). Part D — Oral Communication Scenarios (30 marks) contains two (2) scenario-based questions in which you select the most professionally appropriate response to realistic classroom and school communication situations (15 marks each).

All candidates must read and comply with the following examination rules before proceeding. 1. Academic integrity: This is a strictly individual examination. Candidates must not seek or receive assistance from any person, device, or material not authorised by the examination body. Any violation will be treated as examination malpractice under Rwanda's education regulations and may result in permanent disqualification from teacher certification processes. 2. Answering procedure: Each question presents four (4) answer options labelled A, B, C, and D. You must select one answer per question by clicking your chosen option. Selected answers are highlighted automatically. Review your selection before advancing to the next page, as you may return to previous pages using the "Previous" button before final submission. 3. Time management: You are strongly advised to pace yourself throughout the examination. Suggested time allocations are: Part A — 18 minutes, Part B — 20 minutes, Part C — 12 minutes, Part D — 10 minutes. Avoid spending excessive time on any single question. 4. Submission: Click the "Submit" button only when you are satisfied with all your answers. Once submitted, the examination is complete and results will be displayed immediately. Ensure your device remains connected and powered on for the full duration of the examination.
