About the Scholarship
The University of Tokyo Scholarship 2027
offers an opportunity for international students to pursue postgraduate studies
at the Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo, Japan.
The scholarship is offered under the
Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and
Technology (MEXT) Scholarship Programme through the University Recommendation
scheme.
Eligible candidates can apply for a
master’s or doctoral programme starting in October 2027. The programme aims to

Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants may receive the
following benefits:
- Monthly stipend: The 2027 allowance

month for master’s students and ¥145,000 per month for doctoral students.
- Tuition fee exemption: Exemption
from admission and tuition fees, subject to the scholarship terms.
- Master’s funding duration: October
2027 to September 2029.
- PhD funding duration: October 2027
to September 2030.
- Accommodation support: A room at
the University of Tokyo International Lodge may be available for the first
year under the university’s conditions. Students are responsible for
paying rent.

advanced academic and research facilities at the University of Tokyo.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants are generally expected to meet
the following requirements:
- Be an international applicant holding the nationality of a
country that maintains diplomatic relations with Japan.
- Meet the academic admission requirements for a master’s or
doctoral programme at the Graduate School of Science.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance, generally equivalent
to a GPA of at least 2.30 out of 3.00 under the MEXT calculation method.
- Meet the applicable English or Japanese language proficiency
requirements.
- Satisfy the scholarship’s health, visa, arrival and other
eligibility conditions.

- Abstract of graduation thesis.
