NISR Announces Recruitment of Enumerators for the 2026 Establishment Census
The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has announced preparations for the Sixth Establishment Census (EC2026) and is seeking cooperation from districts in the recruitment and selection of enumerators.
According to an official letter dated 27 August 2026, NISR is preparing to conduct the census nationwide to collect up-to-date information on establishments and their economic activities. The census will provide information on the geographical distribution of establishments, employment characteristics and other economic activities, while also updating the list of establishments to support future economic and development-related surveys.
Recruitment of Enumerators
NISR will recruit enumerators who will be responsible for collecting data from establishments across Rwanda during the census exercise.
The recruitment process will involve two stages:
- Initial pre-selection: Candidates who meet the required qualifications will be shortlisted at sector level based on the number of candidates required.
- NISR selection test: Shortlisted candidates will sit for a selection test administered by NISR at district level.
The official communication states that the NISR selection tests are scheduled to take place from 4 to 17 October 2026.
Districts Asked to Support the Recruitment Process
NISR has requested Mayors and District Executive Administrators to support the recruitment exercise, particularly by:
- Providing suitable venues for conducting the NISR selection tests.
- Facilitating the participation of district staff who regularly work with youth in the initial pre-selection process.
- Supporting the implementation of the EC2026 census activities at district level.
The communication was addressed to all Mayors and District Executive Administrators through the Minister of Local Government (MINALOC).
About the 2026 Establishment Census
The Sixth Establishment Census (EC2026) is intended to provide updated information about establishments operating across Rwanda. The information collected will contribute to understanding economic activities, employment and the distribution of establishments across the country.
NISR says the information will also help update the establishment register and support future economic and development-related surveys.
