TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF AN ACCOUNTANT
1. Background
Prime Life Insurance Limited is a life insurance company
established in 1995 by Rwandan investors and licensed by the National Bank of
Rwanda (BNR).
The Company is seeking to recruit a highly qualified,
self-motivated, competent to fill the position of Accountant.
2. Position Summary
Job Title: Accountant
The accountant will be responsible for financial reporting,
general ledger management, account reconciliations, budgeting, tax compliance,
and the preparation of financial statements.
The accountant will also ensure compliance with applicable
laws, regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies, while
contributing to the improvement of internal controls and providing financial
information to support management decision-making.
3. Duties and Responsibilities
The accountant will be responsible for the following:
- Preparing,
reviewing, and posting journal entries accurately and on time.
- Preparing
monthly bank reconciliations and following up on outstanding reconciling
items.
- Preparing
balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Preparing
tax computations and ensuring the timely filing of applicable tax returns.
- Preparing
final accounts, financial and management reports for internal and external
stakeholders.
- Maintaining
proper accounting records and ensuring that financial documents are filed
in accordance with the Company’s records-management policy.
- Liaising
with internal and external auditors and providing the required information
and supporting documents.
- Maintaining
and monitoring the Company’s fixed asset register.
- Monitoring
accounts payable and supplier balances.
- Ensuring
that supplier invoices and payments are properly supported, authorised,
and recorded.
- Participating
in the preparation, monitoring, and review of the Company’s annual budget.
- Analysing
financial information and providing relevant recommendations to
management.
- Ensuring
compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax laws, regulatory
requirements, and internal policies.
- Supporting
the continuous improvement of accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Performing
any other related duties assigned by management or included in the
employee’s performance contract.
4. Required Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate must possess the following skills
and competencies:
- Strong
knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis.
- Good
knowledge of Rwanda’s tax laws and regulations.
- Good
knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Strong
understanding of double-entry accounting and financial reporting principles.
- Excellent
analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability
to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Competent
information technology skills, particularly proficiency in spreadsheet and
accounting software.
- High
level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong
organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability
to prepare clear, accurate, and well-organised financial records and
reports.
- High
level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
- Ability
to work under pressure and meet reporting deadlines.
- Good
written and verbal communication skills.
5. Academic and Professional Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a
Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Possess
a recognised professional accounting qualification, such as CPA, ACCA, or
an equivalent qualification.
- A
first-class degree is preferred.
- Be
below 28 years of age.
- Having
experience of at least 1 years in accounting works is added advantage
- Experience
working in a busy organisational environment will be an added advantage.
