University of Rwanda Opens Applications for Undergraduate Programmes for 2026–2027 Academic Year

The University of Rwanda (UR) has announced the opening of online applications for admission to its Undergraduate Academic Programmes for the 2026–2027 Academic Year.

Applications are open to prospective students seeking admission to undergraduate programmes offered across the University of Rwanda’s seven Colleges and Rwanda Institute for Conservation (RIC).

According to the official announcement, the online application system will be open from 22 September 2026 to 5 October 2026.

Application opening date: 22 September 2026
Application deadline: 5 October 2026
Application mode: Online

Applicants are advised to complete and submit their applications before the deadline.

Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements vary depending on the undergraduate academic programme.

The University states that programme-specific entry requirements are published on the University of Rwanda website together with the call for applications.

Admission is subject to available places and is based on applicants’ academic merit, particularly their performance in the Advanced Level National Examinations, or as indicated on the Equivalence Certificate for applicants with foreign qualifications.

Requirements Before Applying

Applicants should have the following before starting the application process:

  • A personal email address that they can easily access
  • A valid National ID
  • A personal mobile phone number
  • Senior Six Index Number for applicants who completed Senior Six in Rwanda
  • Relevant supporting documents for international applicants and applicants with foreign qualifications

How to Apply

Step 1: Generate the University of Rwanda Reference Number

Applicants who completed Senior Six in Rwanda should enter their Senior Six Index Number. The system will automatically retrieve the corresponding information from the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA).

Applicants should review the displayed information, complete the remaining required fields and submit the information.

After successful submission, the system will generate a UR Reference Number and PIN and send them to the applicant’s personal email address.

International applicants, as well as Rwandan applicants who completed their studies under a foreign education system and obtained an official Equivalence Certificate, are required to complete the online application. Their UR Reference Number and PIN will also be generated after successful submission.9

Step 2: Submit the Application

For applicants who completed Senior Six in Rwanda, their Senior Six results obtained from NESA will be retrieved and displayed in the application system.

Based on the applicant’s Senior Six combination, the system will display the eligible programmes. Each applicant may select up to three programmes of their choice.

Applicants may change their selected programmes during the application period, provided the changes are made before the application deadline.

International applicants and applicants holding equivalence certificates must upload the required supporting documents, including:
