Internship Program Overview
The African Union Commission invites
qualified citizens of AU Member States to apply for its Internship Program.
This program offers young graduates and final-year students an opportunity to
gain practical experience, strengthen professional skills, and learn about the
operations of one of Africa’s leading institutions.
The internship is a full-time learning
opportunity designed to provide exposure to various AU departments while
helping participants build leadership and career development skills.
Areas of Placement
Interns may be assigned to various AU
departments and offices, including:
- Agriculture and Rural Development
- Education, Science and Innovation
- Infrastructure and Energy
- Political Affairs, Peace and Security
- Health and Social Development
- Human Resources Management
- Information and Communication
- Finance and Administration
- Women, Gender and Youth
- Legal Affairs
- Strategic Planning
- NEPAD
- Protocol and Partnerships
- Information Systems and Technology
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of an African Union Member State.
- Be in the final year of a Bachelor's Degree program, OR
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a relevant
field.
- Be fluent in at least one AU working language (English, French,
Arabic, or Portuguese).
- Be 32 years old or younger at the time of selection.
- Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and good conduct.
- Have no serious criminal record.
No prior work experience is required.
Required Skills
Candidates should have:
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in multicultural environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of email and internet applications.
Internship Duration
The internship is offered for three (3)
months and may be renewed once depending on performance and departmental needs.
Important Information
- The African Union does not provide salary or stipend for
interns.
- Travel, accommodation, and living expenses are the
responsibility of the intern.
- Interns must have their own medical insurance coverage during
the internship period.
- The AU may assist successful candidates in obtaining visas
where necessary.
