NESA steps followed to apply for Markers, Assessors and Checkers of National Examination 2026

 


Attention all  educators and qualified professionals in Rwanda! The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has officially opened its online portal for the recruitment of Markers and Assessors for the 2025–2026 national examination cycle. This is a legitimate, time-bound opportunity to serve your nation, contribute to  educational excellence, and earn in the process.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following general conditions:

  1. Must be a Rwandan national with a valid National Identification Card.
  2. Must be a qualified teacher (in-service) or an external professional with relevant subject expertise.
  3. Must hold a recognized academic qualification in the subject area they wish to assess or mark.
  4. Must have a clean professional record, free from any history of examination malpractice.
  5. Must be available and committed for the full duration of the assessment or marking exercise.
  6. Must be able to attend mandatory NESA training/standardization sessions before the exercise begins.

Detailed Application Guide

  1. Select the Service
    • Detail: Log in to the SDMS (School Data Management System) portal. Locate the blue dashboard; the "Recruitment of Assessors" icon is usually represented by a green "user plus" symbol.
    • Note: If the icon is not visible, the application window may currently be closed.
  2. Choose Application Type
    • Detail: You must choose the specific role you are seeking. Options typically include Examiner (Marker), Item Writer, or Practical Assessor.
    • Note: Ensure you select the role that matches your professional qualifications.
  3. Instructional Review
    • Detail: A pop-up window will appear listing the terms and conditions, including eligibility criteria and code of conduct.
    • Note: You cannot proceed until you scroll to the bottom and check the agreement box.
  4. Identity Verification
    • Detail: Input your 16-digit National ID number. The system is linked to the NIDA database, so the ID must be valid.
    • Note: Ensure the phone number you enter is the one currently active in your handset to receive the SMS.
  5. Submit Verification
    • Detail: After clicking "Get Verification Code," wait for an SMS from "NESA" or "REB."
    • Note: Do not refresh the page while waiting for the code, as this may reset the verification timer.
  6. OTP Authentication
    • Detail: Enter the 4-to-6 digit code exactly as it appears in your messages.
    • Note: The code is usually valid for a limited time (e.g., 5–10 minutes).
  7. Personal Profile Confirmation
    • Detail: The system will auto-populate your name, date of birth, and gender based on your ID.
    • Note: If your names appear incorrectly, you may need to update your NIDA records before proceeding.
  8. Complete Basic Information
    • Detail: Use the dropdown menus to select your current Province, District, Sector, and Cell.
    • Note: This information is often used to assign you to the nearest marking center.
  9. Education & Experience Details
    • Detail: Select your highest qualification (e.g., A0, A1, or A2). You must also specify your current place of work (school) and the number of years you have taught the subject.
    • Note: For Teacher Training College (TTC) staff or specialized educators, ensure your school name is correctly identified in the database.
  10. Subject Selection
    • Detail: Choose the Level (e.g., P6, S3, S6, or TVET) and then the specific Subject (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Kinyarwanda).
    • Note: Be careful to select the correct Paper number (e.g., Mathematics Paper 1 vs. Paper 2) if applicable.
  11. Document Upload
    • Detail: You will need to upload PDF or image files of your Degree and a recommendation letter from your Head of School.
    • Note: Files should typically be under 2MB in size to ensure the upload is successful.
  12. Review & Final Submission
    • Detail: A summary page will show all your entered data. Double-check your subject choice and contact details.
    • Note: Once you click "Submit," you generally cannot edit the information without contacting technical support.
  13. Track Application Status
    • Detail: After submission, the system generates an Application Number. You can use this to check if your status is "Pending," "Shortlisted," or "Confirmed."
    • Note: It is highly recommended to take a screenshot of the "Success" message for your records.
