In line with this mission, Better World Rwanda is seeking to
recruit an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program Officer to strengthen the
design and implementation of ECD interventions, enhance coordination with key
stakeholders, and ensure quality service delivery that supports improved
outcomes for young children and their caregivers in Rwamagana District.

Location: Rwamagana District/ Rwanda
Detailed responsibilities:
- Undertake
monitoring of ECD activities to track progress and resource utilization.
- Assessing
the quality of current ECD activities based on national guidelines.
- Ensuring
the ECD centres are following the approved curriculum for ECD.
- Provide
continued coaching and mentoring support to caregivers to improve the
skills of ECD caregivers.
- Facilitate
school readiness activities in all the ECD centres.
- Facilitate
the smooth transition of children from under ECD centres to formal
schooling.
- Establish
and maintain effective partnerships with other stakeholders in the ECD
sector working in the district to increase service linkages and ensure
sustainability of services.
- Collect
and report essential program data and support.
- establishment
of community-managed information management systems.
- Monitor
child development and facilitate referrals to professional assistance
where necessary.
- Promote
community resource mobilization to sustain ECD services and motivate
caregivers.
- Support
caregivers to develop daily instruction and play programs (lesson plans).
- Perform
any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s
degree in early childhood development, Nursery education, or education
- Minimum
3 years of teaching experience at the lower primary level
- Minimum
2 years of experience working for an NGO on direct project implementation
- Minimum
of 3 years of experience in ECD programming
- Strong
understanding of play-based learning methodologies and their application
in early childhood education
- Specialized
early childhood education training
- Experience
acting as a peer mentor
- Excellent
communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse
stakeholders
- Proven
experience in project monitoring, data collection, and reporting
- Competent
with Microsoft Office programs
- Fluency
in English and Kinyarwanda.
Skills and Competencies
Pedagogical expertise: Proficient in diverse
teaching methodologies and strategies, with a strong understanding of
pedagogical principles. Passionate about ECE and knowledgeable about children’s
play-based learning
Leadership and motivation: Capable of leading
and motivating teams, with proven leadership skills guiding fellow teachers
toward improved teaching practices.
Interpersonal skills: Strong interpersonal and
relationship-building skills, including the ability to network with government
authorities
Data Management: Skill, interest, or previous experience in
data collection, entry, and analysis.
Teaching methodologies: Skilled at utilizing
play-based, student-centered, and active teaching methods for pre-primary,
lower primary,
Constructive feedback: Able to provide feedback
in a supportive manner, fostering a positive and collaborative learning
environment.
Communication skills: Excellent English and
Kinyarwanda oral and writing skills. Effective communicator capable of
articulating ideas clearly and providing constructive feedback to teachers.
Mentorship: Experience in mentoring and coaching
caregivers, promoting a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
