How to Apply to the University of Rwanda: Step-by-Step Guide

Are you planning to apply to the University of Rwanda (UR)? The application process is completed online. Applicants need to create an account, pay the required non-refundable application fee, select their preferred programmes, and submit the application through the UR Online Application Portal.

Step 1: Create Your Application Account

1. Visit the University of Rwanda official website.

2. Go to Admissions and select Student Portal, or access the Application Guidelines.

3. Click New Application.

4. Complete your biographical information.

5. Create a 5-digit PIN.

6. Save your Reference Number and PIN securely. You will need them to log back into your application.

Important: Do not lose your Reference Number or PIN.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

Applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee through the Urubuto payment system.

• Rwandan and EAC citizens: 5,000 RWF

• International applicants: 6,000 RWF

Use your Reference Number as the Payer Code when making the payment.

Available Payment Methods

1. Bank of Kigali (BK)

• Pay at any BK branch/counter.

• Do not use BK Agents for this payment.

2. MTN Mobile Money

• Dial *775*5#

• Follow the instructions provided.

3. Online Payment / BK App

• Use internet banking or pay through Urubuto Pay.

• UR Merchant Code: TH77306981

After making the payment, allow approximately 15 minutes for the payment to appear in the application system.

Step 3: Select Your Academic Programmes

The next step depends on the type of applicant.

A. Applicants Who Completed Senior Six in Rwanda

1. Access the NESA application link provided through the UR application system.

2. Enter your Senior Six Index Number.

3. Your NESA examination results will be retrieved.

4. Select up to three preferred academic programmes that correspond to your subject combination.

Make sure you carefully review the programme requirements before making your choices.

B. International and Equivalence Applicants

Applicants with qualifications obtained outside Rwanda, or applicants required to provide an equivalence certificate, should use the UR Equivalence Application Portal.

You may be required to upload documents such as:

• Certified Equivalence Certificate

• Valid Passport or National ID

• Senior Six Certificate or equivalent qualification

Ensure that all uploaded documents are clear and in the required PDF format.

Step 4: Finalize and Submit Your Application

After selecting your programmes and completing the required information:

1. Return to the UR application portal.

2. Log in using your Reference Number and PIN.

3. Review all information carefully.

4. Make sure your application is complete.

5. Click Submit/Finalize Application.

After successful submission, you should receive a confirmation email.
