 Job Title: Banking Applications Administrator

Purpose of the Role

The  job holder is responsible for the administration, maintenance, availability, tuning and advanced support of the bank's business applications and their surrounding ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain all banking surround systems and applications.
  • Ensure and monitor banking application’s health, performance, and availability.
  • Act as first escalation point for enterprise applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application incidents/service disruptions within bank’s SLA.
  • Coordinate application upgrades, patches, and releases.
  • Ensure applications logs are regularly maintained and saved for future reference.
  • Maintain application documentation for both external and in-house developed software.
  • Obtain and evaluate all relevant information of application software complaints and suggest resolution to direct supervisor.
  • Create, modify, and revoke user accounts and profiles for administered applications by adhering to user management policy.
  • Act as Level 2 and Level 3 support for application-related issues by analysing root causes, coordinating with vendors and internal teams for resolution.
  • Assess and implement approved application changes.
  • Support application releases in accordance with change management procedures.
  • Maintain application documentation and release records.
  • Monitor application transactions, response times, and processing performance.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
  • Tune application settings and configurations for optimal performance.
  • Support application backup and restoration procedures.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) testing exercises.
  • Ensure applications are recoverable within the agreed Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
  • Ensure application security standards are implemented and maintained.
  • Be ready to provide support during late hours, holidays, and weekends in response to needs of the systems being supported or as per planned roster or in case of emergency.
  • Maintain software application information confidentiality strictly.
  • Ensure compliance with bank Policies and Information Technology Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Education

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Development, APIs Development and Deployment, or any other related field.

Experience

  • Have at least 1/2 to 2 years of experience in developing and maintaining banking applications.
  • Hands-on and thorough knowledge in writing clean scripts.
  • Hands-on and proven experience in troubleshooting Java, C++ codes related issues.
  • Hands-on in configuring and managing enterprise applications.
  • Experience in developing and exposing APIs is an added advantage.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge in modern programming languages like: Python, JavaScript, Java, SQL, Oracle, etc.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs.
  • Knowledge of RDBMS for data analysis.

The jobholder will be responsible for the development, maintenance and security of the bank’s data and databases (all) by ensuring the continuous availability, safety, and speed-to-access of the bank’s databases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform database management routines by doing a daily health-check, data sizing, database patching, 24/7 monitoring, data backup, and replication checks.
  • Knowledge in Database tuning.
  • Analysing and tuning of database’s performance through query optimization, index management and configurations.
  • Proven hands-on on data extraction, data recovery, data security and integrity.
  • Maintain all bank’s database privileges by adding, updating, or deleting backend users.
  • Perform a regular database maintenance and keep book log for the maintenance.
  • Develop and implement capacity planning strategies to support business growth.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Bank disaster recovery plan.
  • Participate in periodic data backups and disaster drills.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information systems, data or Information management or the equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in database administration for MSSQL, Oracle DB or Postgres.
  • Expert-level knowledge of at least two major databases platforms (Oracle and SQL) & two major Operating Systems (Linux and Windows).
  • Hands-on and proven experience in troubleshooting database related issues.
  • Hands-on in configure and manage database backup and replications.
  • Relevant database professional certifications in Mango, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle is an added advantage.
  • Experience in managing multiple RDBMS on large systems.
  • Should have experience working with vendors/suppliers and managing SLA.
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
  • Excellent Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.

The  job holder is specialized in distinct areas of card management system application, database and intermediary systems. She/He is responsible for the development of card systems products/schemes, ensures integrations with other systems work seamlessly and fulfils expectations of Card Management System (CMS) users and customers.

  • Support and supervise the daily/routine card operations.
  • Ensure system’s configurations comply with industry standards & regulations / PCI-DSS.
  • Coordinate and work with vendor and I&M Group for L3 support.

Experience

  • Senior Level (3-5) years of experience working with card systems.
  • Having experience in Way4 system is an added advantage.
  • Have experience in card scheme and mandates.
  • Should have experience working with vendors/suppliers and managing SLAs.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Good understanding of ISO 8583.
  • Training or Working Knowledge of Oracle, SQL, PL-SQL, JAVA, C++, .NET.
  • Training or Working Knowledge of ATM Switch (Technical & Functional) is a MUST.
  • Training or Certification in switching technology / Network Switch.
