Re: Invitation for Schools to Apply for
the Associate Nursing Programme (ANP)
The ANP is a strategic programme under the
Government of Rwanda's 4x4 Health Workforce Reform, implemented through the
Second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2). The programme equips
students with basic competences to support health system, creates employment
opportunities for young Rwandans, and provides a pathway to higher education in
health professions.
The first two cohorts have already
demonstrated encouraging results. Approximately 50% of graduates are pursuing
higher education, 30% are employed in primary health care facilities, and 20%
are both working and continuing their studies. To support the national target
of enrolling 2,000 students in September 2026, REB is expanding the number of
schools offering the programme.
Therefore, Rwanda Basic Education Board
(REB) kindly request you to disseminate this letter to Head Teachers of
Boarding Secondary Schools Offering the Science Stream (Stream One) to apply to
offer the Associate Nursing Programme (ANP).
Schools wishing to offer the ANP should
meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a boarding secondary school offering the Science stream
(Stream One) and having a capacity to accommodate additional boarding
students.
- Have three dedicated classrooms for Senior 4 to Senior 6 ANP
students. Schools having parallel classes of Stream One can replace one
class with ANP class
- Have a dedicated room that can accommodate a nursing simulation
laboratory.
- Be located within one kilometre of a District Hospital for
students' clinical placements. Where a school is located more than one
kilometre away, reliable transport to the clinical training site should be
available.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance based on previous
national examination results.
Interested schools are invited to submit
their applications to NESA at info@nesa.gov.rw with a copy to info@moh.gov.rw
by 14/08/2026. Applications will be assessed against the above requirements and
will undergo a readiness assessment (inspection) before approval.
We encourage all eligible schools to take
advantage of this opportunity to contribute to the development of Rwanda's
future health workforce while expanding opportunities for young Rwandans.
Yours sincerely,
