The University of Rwanda (UR), through the
School of Economics (SoE) at the College of Business and Economics (CBE), is
seeking qualified academics to serve as External Examiners for Master's
dissertations and PhD theses. This appointment is for a period of three
academic years and is renewable once based on performance.
Targeted Programs
The School of Economics requires examiners
for the following postgraduate research outputs:
- MSc in Economics: Specializations
in Quantitative, Development, and Monetary Economics.
- PhD in Economics.
- PhD in Applied Statistics.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the pool of examiners,
applicants must meet these minimum requirements:
- Academic Qualifications: Hold a PhD
in a discipline related to the programs offered by the School of Economics.
- Professional Rank: Must be an
academic staff member at the level of Senior Lecturer, Associate
Professor, or Professor, or a senior researcher at a recognized
institution.
- Research Record: Have a strong
publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed journals within the last
three years.
- Experience: Demonstrate prior
experience in supervising or examining postgraduate research at the
Master's or PhD level.
- Integrity: Have no conflict of
interest with the University of Rwanda.
Roles and Responsibilities
External Examiners will engage on a
contractual, task-based basis. Their duties include:
- Evaluating dissertations and theses according to UR academic
regulations.
- Providing independent, objective, and detailed examination
reports within set timeframes.
- Recommending specific corrections, revisions, or final outcomes.
- Participating in oral defense examinations, either physically
or virtually.
- Remuneration is provided in accordance with approved University
of Rwanda policies and rates.
