Medicine (LSHTM) in partnership with Nagasaki University in Japan is jointly
offering the Global Health Scholarship programme for aspiring students.
The London School of Hygiene/Nagasaki
University Joint Global Health Scholarship provides funding that includes
tuition fees, and a living stipend of ¥200 000 per month for selected
candidates.

Hygiene/Nagasaki University Joint Global Health Scholarship:
Nagasaki University is renowned for its
work and research into infectious diseases and has a long history of
collaboration with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
The mission of the London School of Hygiene
& Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Nagasaki University (NU) is to improve
global health through the pursuit of excellence in research, postgraduate
education, advanced training, and consultancy in international public health
and tropical medicine.
Both Universities believe that this mission
is best achieved through international collaboration.
By working together for a common purpose,
whilst valuing differences, they can draw on a wider range of human and
technical resources to tackle the major global health issues.
Requirements for Nagasaki University
Joint Global Health Scholarship
To be considered for the London School of
Hygiene/Nagasaki University Joint Global Health Scholarship, you must:
- normally satisfy the entrance requirements.The normal minimum entrance
qualification for registration is at least one of the following:
- a master’s degree in a subject appropriate to the course of
study to be followed (recommended)
- a qualification appropriate to the course of study to be
followed, in medicine, dentistry or veterinary studies
- an upper second-class honours degree from a UK or Japanese
university, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, in a
relevant subject.
- have evidence of an aptitude for research.
- have evidence of the ability to work effectively in
multicultural teams, including colleagues from Japan, and teams from a
broad range of disciplines.
- meet the English Language requirements.
Benefits of London School of
Hygiene/Nagasaki University Joint Global Health Scholarship
- For all students offered a place, the student’s supervisory
team will receive a Research Grant of up to JPY 2,000,000 per year (for
the first two years and with a potential one-year extension) provided by
Nagasaki University to support the research costs for the PhD project.
- Additionally, the top two or three scoring students in the
selection process, will be offered financial support towards their living
costs.
- This funding is provided by Nagasaki University and will be
similar to previous years (at least JPY 200,000 per month per student for
the first two years and with a potential one-year extension).
- Of note, the stipend is the same whether the student is based
in Nagasaki or in London.
