We are currently inviting applications for the position of the Credit and Recovery Officer who is responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of clients by analyzing financial and non-financial information, evaluating collateral, and ensuring that loan applications comply with internal credit policies and procedures. The officer supports the entire credit process, from application review to loan disbursement follow-up, and contributes to maintaining a high-quality loan portfolio. He/she is also responsible for identifying, reviewing and recovering or restructuring/restoring to performance non-performing debts and making appropriate recommendations to avoid such situations arising in the future in order to mitigate credit risks.

Job Title: Credit and Recovery Officer

Reports to: Credit and Operations Manager 

Position Type: Full time

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, review, and analyze credit applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal guidelines.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to assess risk and repayment capacity.
  • Determine the level of credit risk and recommend appropriate loan conditions.
  • Conduct client visits and inspect proposed collateral before presenting recommendations.
  • Approve or reject loan applications in line with the credit policy.
  • Calculate and propose loan interest rates and negotiate terms with clients.
  • Provide clients with clear, transparent, and relevant information on products, services, fees, terms, and conditions.
  • Ensure all loans comply with regulatory and internal procedures.
  • Ensure ethical conduct by treating clients with respect, honesty, and integrity.
  • Monitor loan repayments, identify potential bad debts, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of existing customer accounts to manage risk and optimize portfolio performance.
  • Present credit files and recommendations to the credit committee.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce periodic reports on credit activities and portfolio performance.
  • Implement and adhere to institutional credit policies and procedures
  • Ensure clients receive clear, accurate, and relevant information about products, services, fees, terms, and conditions.
  • Initiate and develop restructuring and recovery strategies towards reduction of non-performing loans levels as targeted by Company’s management.
  • Contribute to the Company’s profit through writebacks
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policies, regulatory requirements and best practices in carrying out recovery actions with a view to minimizing credit risks
  • Work closely with all Company’s appointed external agencies (debt collectors, appointed receivers, court bailiffs, lawyers etc…) and other third-party vendors
  • Collaborate with the company’s lawyers for efficient and effective resolution of matters in court.
  • Assist Credit and Operations Manager to prepare statutory and regulatory reports required by the Company
  • Give recommendations to Credit and Operations Manager on issues of debt recovery including disposal of securities, litigation, restructuring, final settlement, write-offs and write-downs for approval.
  • Provide professional business support to the Credit and Operations Manager to resolve challenges faced by stressed clients
  • Enhance the Company’s overall image through improved relations with bad debtors and ensure customers are satisfied through timely responses to issues.
  • Perform other tasks reasonably required by Credit and Operations Manager or Managing Director within the framework of this job description

Qualifications & Experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in credit administration in Financial Sector.
  • Knowledge of microfinance products, procedures, and regulations.
  • Enough skills in credit risk assessment, financial analysis, and modeling.
  •  understanding of Rwanda’s banking regulations and non-deposit taking financial institutions
  • Strong planning, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client management abilities.
  • High integrity, ethical judgment, and discretion with sensitive information.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Kinyarwanda and English; knowledge of French is an advantage.

We are currently inviting applications for the position of the Credit and Operations Manager whowill oversee the lending and operational functions of Money Tap Ltd. This role involves supervising Loan Officers and the Administrative Assistant, approving loan applications, preparing regulatory reports for the National Bank of Rwanda, and managing all other operational and managerial responsibilities of the company.

  • Loan approval: Review and approve loan applications within delegated authority, ensuring compliance with credit policies.
  • Regulatory reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports required by the National Bank of Rwanda.
  • Operations management: Oversee daily operations, including loan processing, client services, and administrative functions.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to Rwanda’s financial regulations governing banks and non-deposit taking institutions.
  • Strategic support: Assist the Managing Director in implementing business strategies and operational improvements.
  • Risk management: Monitor loan portfolio performance and implement measures to mitigate credit and operational risks.
  • Supervision: Manage and mentor Loan Officers and the Administrative Assistant, ensuring performance standards are met.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and partners to enhance the company’s reputation.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates on operational and financial performance to the Managing Director.
  • Other duties: Perform other tasks reasonably required by Managing Director within the framework of the company’s scope of work

Qualifications

  •  
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in credit management, operations, or financial services, with at least 1 years in a managerial role.
    • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Rwanda’s banking regulations and non-deposit taking financial institutions.
    • Skills: Leadership, analytical thinking, decision-making, and excellent communication skills.
    • Technology: Proficiency in MS Office and loan/operations management systems.
    • Language: Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; French is an added advantage.
