The University of Rwanda (UR) is open to prospective students who completed their Senior Six (S6) in 2025 and those with Equivalence Certificates from NESA dated 2025.

Part 1: Initial Application Steps
Step 1: Access the Student System
Go to the official University of Rwanda website:
www.ur.ac.rw Click on the "Admissions" section on the main menu bar.
Click on "Student Portal."
On the left side of the page, click on "New Application" to begin creating your account.
Step 2: Complete Your Personal Information Form
A form will appear where you must fill in your personal details. All fields marked with a red asterisk

are compulsory.Required information includes: Surname, Other Names, Date of Birth, Gender, Marital Status, Mother's Name, Father's Name, Guardian's Name, Nationality, Country of Residence, National ID (or Passport Number for foreign students), Senior Six (S6) Index Number, Previous Education, Year of Completion, Physical Disability, Postal Address, Cell (Akagari), Sector (Umurenge), District (Akarere), Email, Contact Phone Number, and Next of Kin's Phone Number.
After filling out the form, click the "Save" button to submit your information.
Step 3: Create Your PIN and Reference Number
Upon saving your personal information, the system will issue you a unique Reference Number. This is a crucial number for all future interactions with the university.
You will then be prompted to create a five-digit PIN. This PIN, combined with your Reference Number, will be your login credential.
Be sure to record both your Reference Number and PIN in a safe place.
Step 4: Pay the Application Fee
The non-refundable application fee is 5,000 RWF for Rwandan and EAC applicants and 6,000 RWF for non-EAC applicants.
Payment is made using your Reference Number. You can pay via:
Bank of Kigali (BK) counter: Go to the nearest BK branch and inform the teller you want to pay fees via the Urubuto University interface. Note: Do not pay through BK Agents.

Part 2: Submitting Your Application and Program Choices
Step 5: Continue the Application Process
After making your payment, you must wait for 13 minutes for the payment to be reflected in the online system before you can continue.
Log in to the Student Portal through the "Registered Users" section on the right side of the page, using your new Reference Number and PIN.
Go to the application link

Step 6: Select Your Programs of Choice
The system will prompt you to choose your desired academic programs.
You can search for a program by typing a word or phrase in the search bar.
You are allowed to select up to three program choices.
For each program, you must specify the mode of study (e.g., Full-time, Day) and your order of preference (1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice).
Click "Save and Continue" after making your selections.
Step 7: View and Accept Application Rules
The system will display the application rules and regulations.
You must view these rules and accept them to proceed with your application.
Step 8: Final Submission
Review all your application details one last time.
Click on the "Submit Application" button to finalize your application.
You will see a confirmation message stating: "Your application has been accepted for further processing. Thank you."
Part 3: Document Uploads (for specific applicants)
Step 9: Upload Required Documents
This step is only for international applicants and national applicants with equivalence certificates.

A certified copy of your Equivalence Certificate in the Rwandan system.
A copy of your valid Passport (for international applicants) or National ID card (for national applicants).

Your application will not be considered unless this form is completed in full and all required documents are attached.
