JOB OPPORTUNITY
LuNa Smelter Ltd is Rwanda’s established tin smelter in
Kigali Rwanda. As part of its optimization and localization plans the company
is recruiting professionals to fully optimize its production capacity and hence
cater for the country’s growing demand in the mining sector, and that of the
region.
LuNa Smelter Ltd is looking for experienced professionals to
fill the following vacancy.
- SHEC
Officer
Reporting to: LuNa Smelter SHEC Superintendent
Employment Type:Full time
Required Experience, Skills, Qualifications and
Competencies
- Bachelor’s
degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science,
Environmental Management, or a related field.
- 2–3
years of relevant SHEC/HSE experience, preferably in mining, construction,
manufacturing, or another high-risk industry.
- Professional
certification in Occupational Health and Safety such as NEBOSH, IOSH,
OSHA, or equivalent is an added advantage.
- Knowledge
of risk assessment, HIRA, incident investigation, emergency preparedness
and environmental management.
- Good
understanding of occupational health, environmental and mining safety
requirements.
- Good
knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems is an
advantage.
- Strong
report writing, communication, leadership and problem-solving
skills.
Key areas of responsibilities
- Implement
and monitor Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) standards
across mining and exploration operations.
- Conduct
regular workplace inspections, safety observations and risk assessments
and ensure corrective actions are closed.
- Prepare,
review and implement HIRA, JSA, SOPs and risk controls for operational
activities.
- Conduct
and monitor Toolbox Talks, safety inductions and SHEC awareness training
for employees and contractors.
- Monitor
compliance with PPE requirements, safe work procedures and company SHEC
rules.
- Report,
investigate and follow up on incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions,
including implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor
environmental compliance, including waste management, water management,
dust control, rehabilitation and pollution prevention.
- Support
emergency preparedness and response, including inspections of emergency
equipment and participation in drills.
- Monitor
occupational health requirements, including workplace health risks, first
aid arrangements and health surveillance activities.
- Ensure
employees and contractors comply with legal, regulatory and company SHEC
requirements.
- Maintain
accurate SHEC records, statistics, inspection reports, incident reports
and compliance documentation.
- Monitor
SHEC performance indicators and prepare daily, weekly and monthly SHEC
reports for management.
- Support
community engagement and CSR initiatives related to mining and exploration
activities.
- Provide
SHEC advice to supervisors and management and intervene immediately where
unsafe acts or conditions present significant risk.
