REB Official Calendar: 2nd Term 2025/2026 Academic Roadmap

The Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) has outlined a structured 13-week journey for the second term. This term focuses heavily on the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC), continuous assessment, and quality assurance through pedagogical monitoring.


📘 Phase 1: Term Induction & Resumption

The term kicks off with an immediate return to pedagogical activities to maximize time on task.

  • WEEK 1 (05/01 – 09/01/2026): Opening & Integration. Schools receive learners. Per REB guidelines, teaching begins immediately to ensure the syllabus remains on track.
  • WEEK 2 (12/01 – 16/01/2026): Intensive Teaching. Full engagement with the scheme of work.

🔍 Phase 2: Monitoring & Quality Education

Weeks 3 through 5 are designated for Class Visits. This is the period where School General Assembly Committees (SGAC) and Sector/District Education Officers often conduct inspections to ensure teaching quality.

  • WEEK 3 (19/01 – 23/01/2026): Teaching & Internal Class Visits.
  • WEEK 4 (26/01 – 30/01/2026): Teaching & Pedagogical Monitoring.
  • WEEK 5 (02/02 – 06/02/2026): Completion of first-half modules.

️ Phase 3: Mid-Term Stabilization

A shift back to focused classroom delivery to ensure learners grasp core concepts before the final assessment phase.

  • WEEK 6 (09/02 – 13/02/2026): Core Teaching and Learning.
  • WEEK 7 (16/02 – 20/02/2026): Deepening of CBC practical activities.

📈 Phase 4: Readiness & Evaluation Prep

The final stretch of the syllabus is covered here, combined with a second round of class visits to support teachers.

  • WEEK 8 (23/02 – 27/02/2026): Teaching & Support Supervision.
  • WEEK 9 (02/03 – 06/03/2026): Final Syllabus Coverage.

📝 Phase 5: National Assessment Standards

The term concludes with rigorous testing and the digital recording of marks into the national database.

  • WEEK 10 (09/03 – 13/03/2026): Revision & Non-Serial Exams. Focus on elective and non-core subjects.
  • WEEK 11 & 12 (16/03 – 27/03/2026): Main Examinations. Two weeks dedicated to comprehensive summative assessments for all core subjects.
  • WEEK 13 (30/03 – 03/04/2026): CA-MIS Reporting. * Teachers finalize marking.
    • CA-MIS (Comprehensive Assessment Management Information System): Marks are uploaded to the NESA portal.
    • Departure: Learners depart for the second-term holidays on April 3rd.
