REB Announcement for P6, S3, and S6 Teachers and Students & HTs of all schools – Academic Year 2025/2026

Rwanda Launches Weekend Remedial Learning Program for Candidate Classes

The Ministry of Education, through the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB), has announced new guidelines for the Weekend Remedial Learning Program (RLP), designed to support candidate classes in Primary 6, Senior 3, and Senior 6.

The program is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring no learner is left behind by providing extra academic support to students who need it most.

According to REB, results from the 2024–2025 national examinations showed that students who attended remedial sessions performed significantly better, with the majority passing their exams. This success demonstrates the effectiveness of the initiative and the importance of extending support to struggling learners early.

Key Highlights of the Program:

  • Targeted Students: Candidate classes (P6, S3, S6) with scores below 55%, repeaters, and those promoted after remedial learning.

  • Schedule: Sessions will be held on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., starting 11–12 October 2025 and concluding 6–7 December 2025.

  • Subjects Covered: All examinable subjects for candidate classes.

  • Support for Teachers and Schools: Teachers of examinable subjects will conduct the sessions, while school leaders will ensure attendance and compliance.

Budget and Support:

REB will transfer funds directly to schools to facilitate:

  • Meals: 300 Rwf per learner and teacher per day.

  • Cooks: 1,500 Rwf per cook, per day (up to five cooks per school).

  • Teachers: 4,000 Rwf transport allowance per teaching day.

  • School Leaders: A lump sum of 10,000 Rwf each for Headteachers, DOS, DOD, and bursars.

Schools are required to prepare timetables, monitor attendance, and submit financial reports for accountability.

For further details, REB has designated Mr. Kimenyi Angelo, Pedagogy and Remedial Specialist (Email: akimenyi@reb.rw, Tel: 0786554862).
