REB Allocates CPD Time for English Training in All Schools

The Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening teachers’ English proficiency as part of its ongoing efforts to improve teaching and learning outcomes across the country.

In a circular issued on 24th September 2025, REB directed all schools to dedicate one period every Wednesday, from 4:10 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., specifically for English training. This initiative is embedded within the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program, which plays a vital role in enhancing teachers’ skills and professional growth.

According to the directive, schools are also reminded to ensure that teachers enrolled in the English training program have access to laptops for use during these sessions. This move highlights REB’s emphasis on both digital literacy and language proficiency as essential tools for quality education delivery.

Dr. Mbarushimana Nelson, the Director General of REB, signed the circular, underscoring the importance of schools’ cooperation in successfully implementing this directive.

The allocation of dedicated CPD time for English training is expected to not only improve teachers’ communication and instructional abilities but also to positively impact learners’ outcomes nationwide.
