Google Forms Quiz Tutorial: Setup, Questions, and Scoring

 


Step 1: Open Google Forms

  1. Go to https://forms.google.com.

  2. Sign in with your Google account.

  3. Click Blank to start a new form.

Step 2: Set Form as a Quiz

  1. Click the gear icon (Settings) at the top right.

  2. Go to the Quizzes tab.

  3. Toggle “Make this a quiz.”

  4. Choose:

    • Immediately after each submission – students see scores right away.

    • Later, after manual review – teacher grades first.

  5. Click Save.

Step 3: Add Quiz Questions

  1. Click + to add a new question.

  2. Choose question type:

    • Multiple choice

    • Checkboxes

    • Dropdown

    • Short answer (for automatic grading, must match exact answer)

  3. Enter the question text.

  4. Enter answer options (if applicable).

Step 4: Assign Marks

  1. Click Answer key at the bottom of the question.

  2. Select the correct answer(s).

  3. Enter the points for the question.

  4. Optional: Add feedback for correct/incorrect answers.

  5. Click Done.

Step 5: Customize Quiz Settings

  • General settings: Collect email addresses, limit to one response, allow edits.

  • Presentation settings: Show progress bar, shuffle questions, show link to submit another response.

  • Quiz settings: Control when students see scores, correct answers, and feedback.

Step 6: Preview and Test

  • Click the eye icon (Preview) to see how the quiz looks.

  • Test submission to ensure scoring works correctly.

Step 7: Share the Quiz

  • Click Send:

    • Email: Send directly to students.

    • Link: Copy and share via Google Classroom, email, or chat.

    • Embed: For websites or LMS platforms.

Step 8: View Responses and Grades

  1. Go to Responses tab.

  2. See summary of scores or individual submissions.

  3. Export responses to Google Sheets for detailed analysis.

Tips:

  • Use short answer or paragraph questions carefully, because automatic grading only works if answers match exactly.

  • For practical exams, you can combine uploaded files (photos/lab reports) with Google Forms questions.

  • Use feedback and hints to help students learn immediately.

Q1 – Circuit Setup (10 points)

  • Question type: Multiple choice

  • Question: “Which components are required to build the given electrical circuit?”

  • Options:

  • Correct answer: Battery, wires, resistor

  • Feedback: Explain why the correct components are necessary.

Q2 – Voltage Measurement (10 points)

  • Question type: Short answer

Settings:

  1. Turn on Make this a quiz in settings → Quizzes tab.

  3. Mark file upload questions for manual grading.

  4. Optional: Enable immediate feedback after submission.
