2025 Infographic Competition for university students

 The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) is the central agency responsible for the production and dissemination of official statistics in Rwanda, and the overall coordination of the National Statistical System NSS). As part of its mandate to promote statistical literacy and enhance public understanding of key statistics, NISR organizes an annual Infographic Competition.



This competition encourages students to creatively transform statistical reports published on the NISR website into visually engaging and informative infographics. By simplifying complex statistical information, these infographics make the data more accessible and easier for the public to understand, fostering a greater appreciation for the importance of statistics among young people.

COMPETITION TOPIC:

participants are requested to visualize both static and dynamic infographics that highlight a data story from one of the following reports. 

  • Create both infographics (static and dynamic) that tell a data story from key indicators from the Integrated Household Living Conditions Surveys (EICV 1, EICV 2, EICV3, EICV4, EICV5, and EICV 7)
  • Create both infographics (static and dynamic that tell a data story from key indicators of the Annual Rwanda Labor Force Survey reports that capture the years from 2017 to 2024.
  • Create both infographics (static and dynamic) that tell a data story from key indicators of the national account GDP.

REQUIREMENT FOR PARTICIPATION:

  • Competition is open to all undergraduate and Recent graduates (graduated in 2024 and 2025) or master’s students, regardless of their field of study.
  • Fresh graduates from fields related to data science, statistics, economics, Mathematics, agriculture, IT, Communication, creative design, and other related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Students must have a student card or other official document confirming he/her eligibility. Fresh Graduates must have a degree or other document confirming that he/she graduated from the university in either 2024 or 2025.
  • For students, form a team of 2 from any university. Fresh graduate participation is individual, and their evaluation will be different for student.
  • Students from the final year and female participants are encouraged.
  • Both static and Dynamic Infographics will be submitted via NISR’s website.
  • By entering the competition, the entrants agree to grant permission to NISR to use and reproduce their work, with appropriate acknowledgment.
  • Plagiarism is prohibited. You must declare that the submission is your own work and that all sources of reference are acknowledged in full. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

EVALUATION CRITERIA: 

  • Relevance: Does the infographic align with the competition’s theme and message?
  • Data Presentation: Are the data and statistics accurately and effectively presented?
  • Creativity and Originality: Does the infographic stand out visually, showing creativity and originality in design?
  • Simplicity: Is the information presented in a clear, concise, and easy-to-understand manner?
  • Storyline and Flow: Does the infographic tell a coherent story with a logical flow?
  • Design Quality: Are the graphics, colors, and fonts used appropriately to enhance the message?
  • Legibility and Shareability: Is the infographic easy to read and suitable for sharing with a wider audience?

PRIZES AND VALUE ADDITION:

  • Every participant will gain practical data skills needed for a potential career path in data industry.
  • The top 3 teams will be awarded high-quality laptops for each member of the team. In addition, students from winner teams who are in their final year of study will be awarded professional internship after their graduation.
  • The best fresh graduates will be awarded 6 months professional internship at NISR. 

IMPORTANT DATES

  • 4th August – 30th August 2025: Open for registration on the NISR website. The registration closes on 31st August at 12:00am.
  • September 2025: Kick –off and guidance webinar and initial capacity building sessions (remote).
  • 10th October 2025: first-stage submission deadline.
  • 22nd October 2025: Infographics finalists announced
  • 16th - 22nd November 2025: Infographics technical mentorship & skills development and final presentation.
  • Awards Ceremony: To be communicated.
