As the 2025/2026 academic cycle reaches its pivotal
mid-point, the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has
officially rolled out the comprehensive registration guidelines for the
upcoming national assessments. This critical phase, running from February 25 to
March 27, 2026, serves as the formal gateway for Primary Six (P6), Senior Three
(S3), and Senior Six (S6)/Level 5 students to validate their academic journey
and secure their eligibility for the national exams. By utilizing the School
Data Management System (SDMS), NESA aims to streamline the enrollment process,
ensuring that every candidate—whether from a public, private, or
government-aided institution—is accurately captured in the national database.
These guidelines are not merely administrative instructions but a essential
roadmap designed to maintain the integrity of the Rwandan education system
while providing clear pathways for students to transition into their next level
of specialized or higher education.
For the 2025/2026 registration window, NESA has introduced a
dual-track approach that caters specifically to the unique needs of
school-based learners and private candidates. While school-based students
benefit from the direct oversight and technical assistance of their respective
head teachers, private candidates are empowered with a self-service
registration model that emphasizes accessibility through the SDMS portal and
the Irembo payment gateway. A significant focus of this year's guidelines is
the "Leave No One Behind" principle, which includes dedicated
provisions for candidates with special educational needs and strict
requirements for parental involvement in the school selection process. From
verifying National IDs against NIDA records to the mandatory inclusion of
Technical Secondary School (TSS) choices for O-Level students, these protocols
are meticulously crafted to minimize errors, prevent grade-skipping, and ensure
that every candidate is placed in an environment that best suits their academic
potential and career aspirations.
