Fully Funded Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026 (BS,
MS & PhD) Deadline: 15 January, 2026
It aims to attract high-achieving international students
from around the world to pursue full degree or non-degree studies in Hungarian
higher education institutions, thereby promoting the internationalisation of
Hungarian higher education.
The programme covers Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s
(integrated programmes), Doctoral, and non-degree/preparatory courses.

Benefits of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship
As an SH scholar, you can expect the following benefits:
- Tuition-fee
waiver: You pay no tuition for the duration of your
scholarship-covered program.
- Monthly
stipend (living allowance) to help with your living expenses.
- Accommodation
support: either a place in a student dormitory (depending on
capacity) or a monthly accommodation contribution. For
example, at one Hungarian university, “a place in a dormitory depending on
capacity or HUF 40 000/month rental contribution”.
- Medical
Insurance/Healthcare Coverage: You will have access to medical/social
services, as well as supplementary health insurance, while studying in
Hungary.
- Other
typical benefits: Student ID, access to library and university services,
free visa/residence permit administration (at selected institutions).
- Besides
these, you get the opportunity to study in an international environment,
choose programs taught in English (or other foreign languages) in the
heart of Europe.

Eligibility Requirements of the Stipendium Hungaricum
Scholarship Program
- You must
not have Hungarian citizenship; the scholarship is for
international students.
- Your
country must be a “Sending Partner” with Hungary under the bilateral
agreement for your country. (For Pakistan, for example, the Higher
Education Commission (Pakistan) (HEC) is the national partner. Find
your Country’s Sending Partner.
- For
Bachelor’s (undergraduate) / One‐Tier Masters: you need to
have completed your upper secondary education or equivalent by a defined
date (for example: for 2025/26 cycle: before 01 August 2025).
- For
Master’s programs: you must have completed a Bachelor’s/first degree (16
years of education or equivalent) by the relevant cut-off date.
- For
Doctoral programmes: you must have a Master’s/MS/MPhil or equivalent
degree by the relevant date.
- Applicants
must fill in the online application form in English (or the language of
the study program) and upload the required documents.
- Additional
criteria: Some institutions or programs may require a certain language
proficiency (English or Hungarian), or a supervisor’s statement for
doctoral programs.
Required Documents for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship
Program
- Completed online
application form (on TPF application portal).
- A
recent passport-type photo of the applicant.
- A motivation
letter (minimum one page, explaining why you are applying, why
you chose Hungary, and your study plan).
- Proof
of language proficiency: For the language of the selected programme
(often English) or proof that your previous studies were in that language.
Translations of original documents are not in the required language.
- Educational
certificates:
- For
Bachelor’s: Secondary school graduation certificate (or equivalent) +
translation if needed.
- For
Master’s: Bachelor’s degree certificate + transcript.
- For
Doctoral: Master’s degree certificate + transcript + possibly research
plan.
- Transcripts
of records for all semesters/years completed.
- Copy
of passport showing personal data page.
- Medical
certificate of satisfactory health condition. For example, for
2025/26: must be issued not earlier than 1 Nov 2024; for doctoral, etc, as
required.
- If
applying for Doctoral programmes: Statement of a Supervisor (if
required by the Doctoral School) by a given date.
- If the
documents are not yet issued (e.g., final degree) you may need a
“Declaration about missing document” and you must submit the final
certificate by a cut-off date (e.g., 1 August).

How to Apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

Here’s a step-by-step guide to applying for SH:
- Check
your country’s Sending Partner: Confirm that your country is
participating in the 2026/27 cycle and what specific requirements apply
locally (for Pakistan, this will involve HEC).
- Browse
available programmes: Go to the Study Finder on the SH website and
select the study programmes in Hungarian higher education institutions
that are offered under SH for your country.
- Register
in the online application system: Via the TPF portal (Apply section),
you create an account, choose programme(s), and upload required documents.
- Submit
your application before the deadline: Ensure all required documents
(or declarations) are uploaded by the stated cut-off.
- Nomination
by Sending Partner: After the technical check, your application will
be forwarded to your country’s Sending Partner for nomination. Without
nomination, you cannot proceed.
- Institutional
evaluation/entrance exam: After nomination, your chosen Hungarian
institution will contact you (usually in March-May) to conduct entrance
exams/interviews as needed.
- Await
final selection & allocation: TPF, together with the host
institution, will inform you of final admission and scholarship award (by
the end of June/early July).
- Visa/Residence
& travel: Once selected, you will need to apply for a student
visa/residence permit and prepare for travel/arrival in Hungary for the
start of the academic year.
- Start
of studies: Typically, the academic year begins in September.
Application Timeline of the Stipendium Hungaricum
Scholarship Program
November – December 2025: Find your chosen
programme and check available study fields for your country on the Stipendium
Hungaricum website. You may start your application in the DreamApply system and
select relevant programmes.
December 2025: Contact your Sending Partner
(such as the local Hungarian Embassy, ministry, or education council) to
confirm their deadlines and requirements, as these vary by country.
December 2025: Register and upload your
documents in the online application system (apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu). You
may select up to two programmes relevant to your field of
study. Doctoral applicants may need to secure a supervisor depending on the
Doctoral School’s requirements.
15 January 2026 (2 PM CET): Application
deadline. All required documents must be uploaded and application fields
completed before submission.
February 2026: Sending Partners nominate top
applicants by the end of February. Nominated applications are forwarded to the
selected Hungarian higher education institutions.
Until 15 March 2026: Statement of Supervisor
(for doctoral applicants, if required by the chosen Doctoral School) must be
submitted.
March – May 2026: Entrance exams conducted by
Hungarian universities. Applicants are contacted directly by institutions. A
minimum of 56 out of 100 points is required to qualify for
final consideration.
End of June / early July 2026: Final scholarship
results announced by the Tempus Public Foundation after evaluation of exam
results.
July – August 2026: Selected students arrange
visas or residence permits and prepare for travel to Hungary.
September 2026: Start of the academic year at
Hungarian universities.
