Call for Expression of Interest: Proofreading of Research Papers

 1. Background

Rwanda has set ambitious development goals of attaining middle-income status by 2035 and high-income status by 2050. Achieving a positive trade balance is essential for realizing these objectives. To this end, Rwanda must effectively engage in modern international business and negotiate well-structured global trade deals that can foster favorable trade dynamics, helping transition the country from a trade deficit to a trade surplus economy.

In this context, the University of Rwanda (UR), in collaboration with the World Trade Organization (WTO), is implementing Phase III of the WTO Chairs Programme (WCP) in Rwanda. The UR WCP aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of the trading system among academics, citizens, and policymakers by promoting teaching, outreach, and research related to international trade. Under this initiative, several research papers have been developed to provide policy-relevant insights and solutions to challenges in the trade sector.

2. Call for Proofreading Services

The UR WTO Chairs Programme is seeking qualified University of Rwanda Professors to provide proofreading services for the following three research papers:

  1. Differential Impacts of Trade Digitalization on Economic Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Comparative Analysis Between SADC and ECOWAS Countries
  2. Global Firm Performance Effects on Global Value Chains
  3. Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Regarding the Use of Digital Platforms for International Trade Among Rwandan Women Traders

Each proofread paper will be compensated with a fee of 1,000,000 RWF.
These papers are intended for submission to the International Trade Journal.

3. Scope of Work

The selected proofreaders will be responsible for ensuring academic quality and readability. The tasks include:

  • Reviewing written English grammar and academic style appropriate for publication
  • Ensuring consistency in terminology, structure and presentation of tables and figures
  • Verifying the accuracy and consistency of in-text citations and reference lists
  • Providing comments and suggestions to improve clarity and readability, without altering the academic content

4. Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have proven experience in mentoring and proofreading academic research papers
  • Possess a strong publication record spanning at least 10 years
  • Be able to complete the proofreading by 15 August 2025

5. Submission of Expression of Interest

  • A brief statement of interest (maximum 200 words)
  • A short CV highlighting relevant experience (maximum 2–3 pages)
  • Samples of published work and prior proofreading assignments
